Sweets are a bit like another one of me obsessions… weeds! How so? Well, like weeds, our traditional sweets tend to be overlooked and ignored; despite this, they have value. Sweets might look like little more than lumps of sugar with flavouring, but they’re much more than that. Every sweet has a story embedded into it which makes it much more than the sum of its parts.
The best thing about writing this book was blowing most of the advance by going on a road trip around Britain with my friend Lisa. I wanted to find the makers and hear the stories first-hand. Some of these stories will be posted up on this site.
