NB THE ABRIDGED EDITION OF THIS BOOK IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE (that’s the paperback with the brown cover, priced at £9.99)
However, a new unabridged version is available at a cost of £30.00 plus postage suitable for your territory (contact me for details)

How I adored writing this book! Symbols have been a source of fascination to me since I was a titch, and in writing this book I had the idea that we could unify just about every different faith or political persuasion in the planet if we left words alone and looked at the meaning of the symbols that we use. It took over a year before Harper Element agreed to take it, but they are glad that they did because it has come out in three different editions now, and it’s a bestseller that continues to thrive ( At the time of my last statement in April 2013 it had sold in excess of 200,000 copies). The Sourcebook, fully illustrated, is the best edition; the one with the red cover is the first edition, and the brown one is seriously abridged.

Here’s the cover blurb;

‘Unlock the lost and hidden meanings of the world’s ancient and modern signs and symbols. The most comprehensive reference book on symbolic objects that you’ll ever find. This is the largest, most visually stunning, definitive guide to the secret and ancient knowledge of signs and symbols, some of which has been lost over thousands of years. * Why is the eye believed to be a powerful symbol of protection by fisherman? * Why do Masonic Temples have a black and white chequered floor covering? * Why do Hindus use coloured rice powder to draw elaborate symbols in front of their homes, only to have these patterns destroyed every day by footprints? * What are the hidden meanings behind the symbols on the American dollar? * What is the most important symbol in the World? Divided into easy-to-follow A-Z themed sections, the book answers all those questions and more, from sections on Magic and Mystery, Deities and Rituals, the Animal and Plant Kingdom, Landscape and the Elements, to Food and Sacred Geometry. Find out about the secret Demonic alphabet and Script of the Magi, the Glastonbury Zodiac, the Masonic Compass, the Eye of Horus, Native American hunting symbols, the Caduceus and the Indian Diwali ritual. The Illustrated Signs & Symbols Sourcebook is a fascinating compendium of the hidden meanings hidden behind the most important visual symbols in the world’.

Incidentally, I also have a youtube channel in which I post up short films in explanation of some of the symbols…when I have time!

    The Book (The Element Encyclopedia of Secret Signs and Symbols) I use or think of almost every day, when I explore the symbology in day to day practice. What I miss at the end of this book is the index of symbols for a quick find.

    Dear MS. Nozedar I have recently purchased your book Signs and Symbols Source book and I have enjoyed reading it but I have one question. On page 340 there are white symbols on a black background and I do not know what they are. Perhaps the answer is very obvious and I’m just not noticing it. Please response at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

      Hi Adrin

      I think the diagram you mean is a runic alphabet.

    Hello Adele,
    Thank you so much for writing THE ILLUSTRATED SIGNS AND SYMBOLS SOURCEBOOK! It is simply excellent in scholarship and design. I’m currently working on a project of creating therapeutic cards based on symbols as prompts for art therapy, creative expressions and storytelling. Your book is my “go-to” text for researching the symbols I’ve selected for use in the cards. Thank you, again! Warm regards, Catherine Rogers Jonsson
